Introduction

The EpiManager system is entirely web based and requires that you have a security certificate to log on to the system. Currently the following web browsers are supported:

  1. Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0
  2. Mozilla Firefox 2.0

Every user requires a user name and password to login to the system. The front page is customizable.

Once a user logs on he or she is presented with the main menu screen which is also customisable and provides quick access to filters and reports.

Describing the data

EpiManager allows you to describe the type of data you would like to store. The system classifies every item into the following category types:

  • Person
  • Place
  • Animal
  • Other

If your project involves storing some data against an object, for example a farm, then simply create a farm category type under “Place”. You can then add fields to the farm for example a farm identifier, X Y coordinates, etc, see the screen shot below.

Storing data

Once you have finished describing the data, you can then go and store data against the description. You can always add more fields even after starting your data entry process.

In addition to describing "things" and storing data against them, you can also describe an event and store data against an event. The screen shot below shows slaughter events recorded against a farm.

Linking related data

In most real world scenarios things are somehow related to each other and this information needs to be stored, updated and reported. EpiManager provides the capacity to describe relationships between different things or events. The screen shot below illustrates how a farm owns deer.

Reporting

The system provides a filter builder for creating custom reports.

Mapping

The mapping component is currently powered by Google maps. Data can be stored, filtered and mapped spatially.
